However, Hurricane Sandy knocked out a few major websites. Sites like Gizmodo, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, Jezebel, and Gawker are run in a data center in Lower Manhattan. That data center is under five feet of water.
Tumblr to the rescue! Gizmodo, Gawker, and BuzzFeed are using that micro-blogging site as an emergency backup. Not all their content is there, but it allows them to hobble along until things get dried out and restored.
